Tonight’s Fall TACO FLAVOR PARTY PROFILE!!!!!!

Taco Lovers,

A beginning is a delicate thing.  Especially the beginning of Fall, the first temperature drop/relief from the summer heat leaving folks feeling a little vulnerable, sending them scrambling for the comfort of warmer clothing and comforting food things.  Today is one of those days.  The sun is out, and the temperature is brisk, it’s a lovely day for riding a bike down to the Cumming Tap or out to Clive to our HQ at Bombay Bicycle Club, and maybe with a sweater (in the biking community we call this “wool jersey weather”) for some world-class tacos (and other stuff if you make it out to BBC) and delicious drinks.  Our tacos today are inspired by this more fall-like temperature action.  This is what we have at the Cumming Tap tonight:

Cumming Tap Tuesday Menu for 9/18

  • Sweet Potato, Peppers, and Parsnip –  We have roasted Sweet Potatoes and Parsnip chips mixed with Red Anaheim and Poblano Peppers topped with our Adobo Crema and Slaw. It doesn’t get much more fall than a parsnip hanging out with a sweet potato. It’s the chocolate and peanut butter of the season.
  • Grilled Tilapia – Lovely grilled spiced tilapia with crema and spicy slaw. It will warm your insides.
  • Vegan Chorizo – Our Chorizo spice blend contains cinnamon. Which is really Fall tasting and stuff.
  • Braised Pork – What can be more comforting to your stomach/being than our braised pork? (it also goes well over gnocchi)
  • Korean Chicken – Not sure what Fall bs we can squeeze out of this one, but it is one of your favorites and is coming to you live tonight!!!

That is our menu for tonight at the Cumming Tap.  Bob is also slinging some mean Moscow Mules and $2.50 pints of FAT TIRE BEEEEERRRRR! Jeah!

warning: we may be set up inside tonight, so don’t panic if you don’t see our tent. I will place our banner outside to let you know we are there, but look for us just inside the back door of the Tap.

What is on the menu at BBC?  OUR WHOLE MENU is what is on the menu, including our house made kimchi, bul go gi, Seared Tuna tacos with wasabi sauce, the world’s best nachos, super quesadillas, our NAKED JALAPENO “POPPERS”, and much more.

So come see us tonight!  Cumming Tap, in Cumming, or BBC at 8410 Hickman in Clive!

It’s A Farmer’s Market Menu-athalon

The HyVee Triathalon is happening this weekend, on Sunday to be exact.  We are celebrating by doing this whole taco thing this week in the name of running, swimming, and (mostly) biking. I have a good personal friend, world famous Ironman Triathlete Kale Halder, who swears by our tacos for his training and recovery meals while on the pain train (aka training for Ironman and/or road racing).  If Kale Halder performs better with the help of Tacopocalypse, so can you…or you could be an even better spectator!

This guy trains with Tacopocalypse. Fact.

(Kale Halder’s image, name, and skewed quote used completely without permission, but Kale, ir you see this, I will hook you up with a few free tacos…yeah?)

menu Menu MENU!

  • BRAISED PORK
  • BACON CHORIZO
  • KOREAN CHICKEN
  • WASABI BRISKET
  • VEGAN CHORIZO

Friday Lunch Party NOW WITH SALAD THINGS

Taco Lovers. Lunch begins again at 11 am tomorrow (Friday) and features our usual taco numbers, fresh Thai shrimp ceviche, our signature Market Gaspacho made from fresh farmers market produce, and our recently added Tacopocalypse Taco Salad of Utter Enjoyment.

WHAT? TACO SALAD?!?!?!?

Yes, we serve a bomb taco salad during Friday Lunch…some would say it is a lunch special.

We start with a fresh fried tortilla shell, our spicy refried pintos (beans, not the car), then we add fresh field greens lightly tossed in a blackberry-balsamic vinaigrette, and top it with fresh grape tomatoes, bell pepper, red onion, cotija cheese, and your choice of Chicken, Braised Pork, or Carne Asada. Is good.

So there is that, bring your crew in for lunch tomorrow and show them how much taco cred you have. 8410 Hickman inside Bombay Bicycle Club.

TUESDAY TACO MENU THING

Taco Lovers,

Tonight is going to be an amazing night for riding out to the Cumming Tap for some drinks and tacos and stuff.  The temperature will be optimal, the air crisp and clear, and the tacos…well, you know how they will be.

This is what I THINK (I am pretty sure this menu is correct) we will have tonight, as I have been busy and left Tuesday Things up to trusty assistant to the assistant manager, GP (who, according to FB, set a new record of 350 tortillas made in one hour. I am impressed)

“No Shirts, No Shoes, NOOOOO DICE?”

A MENU IN THE SAME SIZE FONT AS THE REST OF THE WORDS

  • bRAISED Pork – yum
  • Vegan Chorizo – also yum. (if you order a pork and a chorizo it is called a “CLASSIC COMBO”)
  • Beef Cheek – Cumin rubbed and slow cooked in Agave Wheat beer, we have some really tender cheek…
  • Bacon Chorizo – Mexican Sausage made with only bacon.
  • Potato Poblano – Spicy slaw, roasted potatoes, fried onions and poblano peppers, adobo crema. Yes.
  • Korean Chicken – thinly sliced (well, it’s supposed to be thinly sliced) chicken breast marinated in a soy and gochuchang mixture.

WE WILL ALSO BE FEATURING SIDES OF POBLANO POTATOES FOR $2 AGAIN THIS WEEK.

With that said, we look forward to seeing you look forward to eating tacos.

WE ALSO SERVE OUR FULL MENU AT BOMBAY BICYCLE CLUB EVERY TUESDAY NIGHT FROM 5 UNTIL 11. IF YOU AREN’T INTO RIDING OUT TO CUMMING BUT WANT SOME OF OUR FOOD THINGS, THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO.

Super Patriotic July 3rd Tacopocalypse Tuesday Insanity

Tomorrow night is July Fourth Eve, which will most likely go down in history as one of 2012’s most exciting and completely awesomest/rad to the extreme holiday for partaking in Tacos and Refreshments and a bike ride to the Cumming Tap.  Okay, here’s the situation:

It’s a Tuesday night, you don’t have to work on Wednesday.  Why?  Because it’s the celebration of the birth of our nation, and nothing says America like sitting around eating a bunch of food and sharing libations with your fellow inhabitants of this country while recovering from a crazy Tuesday night of bike riding, tacos, and whatever else you can gather into your corner during your stay at the Cumming Tap and the ride on the Great Western Trail (you know, they don’t call it great for nothing).

What will you be eating?  Let us reveal the super not secret menu….

  • Braised Pork
  • Vegan Chorizo
  • Korean Chicken
  • Bacon Chorizo
  • Potato Poblano
  • Beef Cheek

There may be some other surprises, not quite sure yet.  We are fairly ahead of the game today and may have some extra time to pack some fun stuff along tomorrow.  We ARE bringing enough taco supplies for over 1,000 tacos.  If we sell out of all of this stuff… I think the taco staff will need a raise.

We all look forward to seeing you tomorrow night, come celebrate our Nation’s Birthday, and if you stay late enough I will be riding back to town by bicycle…come ride with me…

CUMMING TOMORROW. THE MENU-ING

TOMORROW…WAIT…Tomorrow, Taco Lovers, will be our official kick off of BEING IN TWO PLACES AT ONE TIME. We will be serving at the Bombay Bicycle Club from 5 to 11, and we will also be (duh, of course) at the Cumming Tap from 3 until 10, or whenever you Taco Animals clean us out of goodies.  Which was pretty fast and furious the last two weeks (we are bringing more stuff this time, but I am almost certain that won’t make a difference).

CUMMING TAP MENU FOR TUESDAY:

  • Braised Pork
  • Vegan Chorizo
  • Wasabi Brisket
  • Korean Chicken
  • Beef Cheek
  • Chorizo Verde
  • Whatever runs out first will be replaced with Potato Poblano

We may have one or two other “replacer” tacos flavors for when things start running out.

The Bombay menu includes some bitchin nachos, Thai Shrimp Ceviche, and a load of taco flavors including our new Seared Ahi Tuna w/Wasabi and spicy slaw topped with toasted sesame seeds. There will be a soup which will most likely be our Sopa Verde (it’s a green soup. go figure).

SO, you have two opportunities to get your mouths around our tacos tomorrow night.  Either choice is wise…

“It’s Taco Tuesday somewhere…”

Today Is The Big Day!

Well, Taco Lovers, the day has finally arrived.  We here at the Tacopocalypse HQ were just reminiscing about the old days when we were just doing this to have fun and didn’t think it would ever really amount to anything.  There was just a great desire to ride our bikes, serve some great tacos, and ride our bikes some more.  We thought things like “maybe someday we will have a taco truck or a food cart somewhere.”  We were (sort of) dreamers. The kind that Ronnie James Dio sang about, but without all that dragon stuff.  Not that we don’t like dragon stuff. um…

We are no longer the same sort of dreamers.  We bypassed what we had wished for in the beginning and went straight to having a “brick and mortar” spot to serve our Almost-Famous tacos.  We have an actual kitchen with a real line with actual stations and the ability to do whatever we want with the menu (except stop making tacos).  This is far beyond the original plan.  Way beyond.  Like real job kinda beyond.  And we are breaking records every week at the Downtown Farmers Market and Cumming Tap.  And from the sounds of things, we are doing a good enough job to keep you all coming back to see what else we can do. I love it. You won’t find many folks smiling at the end of 18 hours of kitchen work, but that’s the pot of gold you will find on my face at the end of  my rainbow of a work day.

Why am I smiling?  Because at the end of every long day I know that my efforts and the efforts of my team are making other people happy.  When it comes down to it we aren’t in it for the money or the recognition, we are in this to make people happy and to have a good time while doing so.

so far so good.

I guess this is the part where I tell you that I look forward to seeing you all at our mobile spots, but take a trip out to Clive to our new digs at the Bombay Bicycle Club and check out what I have been working on for your mouths. (it might be the only rock  bar in the midwest where you can get Ceviche) There are a lot of new things going on out here, and we are constantly evolving…which is why our first two menus were just written on the backs of old show posters.  Printing menus seems to final and not very fun at all.  I will be posting a new page here on Tacopocalypse.com specifically for the BBC menu, but will be blogging about what special things we have going on as they roll out of our kitchen.

Where is this place?  8410 Hickman Avenue in Clive.  Live music, great beer selection (they even sell my favorite beer, 40’s of Old English 800), and a top notch chef-driven menu of Latin and Asian foods.  And Tacos.  You seem to love what we have going on everywhere else, take it to the next level.  BUT WE DON’T WANT YOU TO PUT A RING ON IT JUST YET.

It’s A GRAND OPENING PARTY, Y’ALL

Due to some funny communication, we are having our grand opening at the BOMBAY BICYCLE CLUB right now. We are just doing tacos, we are waiting for our fryer to get hooked up so that we will be able to freshly fry chips for nachos and sesame crackers for ceviche. BUT WE HAVE SOME PRETTY GOOD TACO SELECTION ACTION GOING ON RIGHT ABOUT NOW.

-Braised Pork
-Beef Cheek
-Korean Chicken
-Wasabi Brisket
-Poblano Potato
-Vegan Chorizo

and if you are feeling up to it, you can ask about our fish tacos. We have two varieties which aren’t on tonight’s menu, but if you speak up I will be more than happy to prepare for you our SEARED AHI TUNA/WASABI TACO or maybe our GRILLED TILAPIA W/ADOBO CREMA AND SPICY SLAW TACO is what you want.

Again, we only have tacos tonight, but that isn’t disappointing news…because our tacos aren’t disappointing. Except for that one time.

We will be taking tomorrow off at the BBC to serve only at the Cumming Tap, then Wednesday we will be kicking in full menu style at BBC from here on out. I look forward to seeing you all out here in Clive. It’s very excite!
