Think About This During Your Weekend

Taco Likers!  We have been absent from the taco scene for a few weeks, dealing with this and that and the other thing.  To make up for this grave inconvenience visited upon your taco liking selves we have TWO events coming up next week, and we are planning on showing up for BOTH DAYS! YAY!

Tuesday, January 31

It’s the last of the month and time for Tacopocalypse Tuesday at the Cumming Tap in bustling Cumming, Iowa.  We will be starting up the taco service at 3:00 pm and going until 9 or 10 or whenever Bob and I get tired of having fun with you.  Tacos are still 2 for $5, and Fat Tire Pints are $2.50.  What are we serving?  I hear rumors that we will be serving Braised Pork, Vegan Chorizo, Chorizo Verde, and Wasabi Brisket.  That hasn’t been confirmed, but you can almost bank on it…

Thursday, February 2

Thursday night we will be at the Flat Tire Lounge in lovely Madrid, Iowa serving up our hand pressed tortilla-hugged taco fillings and scratch made salsas and slaw and the other stuff.  They will be serving up $7 pitchers of Fat Tire (!) along side our tacos.  What’s the Menu? We aren’t telling yet, there are a few surprises in store…maybe a new item we are testing our for the Downtown Farmers’ Market…stay tuned.

There are two things to consider putting on your calendar for next week while you are enjoying your weekend.  We would love to see you (and you know who you are)

Special Tuesday Announcement

Dearest Taco Lovers:

This week we will once again be absent from the Cumming Tap.  We will be serving tacos at a special event called TechBrew in down town Des Moines being held by our good friends at StartupCity.  We are at the same time sorry to not be at our normal stomping grounds, and very excited to be a part of this networking event.

We are planning a special Holiday Tacopocalypse next Tuesday at the Tap.  Look for the announcement soon…

Tuespocalypse Tacoday Tonight.

Yes, oh TacoLovers, tonight is really happening.  It’s going to be a beautiful evening to ride you bike (or drive your gas-powered vehicle if you are so inclined), share some stories from your weekend (maybe including the 2nd Annual Tweed Ride) over amazing tacos (seriously, they are), and take advantage of $2.50 pints of New Belgium Fat Tire beer.  Come out for food, fun, a ride, or just to see your favorite taco chef (Me) and your favorite cycling bar owner/tender, Bob Moural.  We should be set up to start around 5, and will be featuring the Wasabi Brisket, Braised Pork, Korean Chicken, and Vegan Chorizo you have come to know and love.  I promise that we will mix it up a little soon, but this menu has been a hit.  Thinking about bacon, curry cheek, and some other classics…maybe a few new items.  Those of you who stick with us through the long-ish winter months will be rewarded with being part of the R&D for next year’s Farmers’ Market treats, including the forthcoming Tacopocalypse Chili, and some new salsas.  Speaking of which, 187 sauce was a victory and will be on the condiment table tonight.

Tonight, Tonight, Tonight! Whoa-ooooo!

Sometimes when I stare closely at my Phil Collins album covers a vision pops out.  Mr. Collins’ hair line becomes the outline of a taco shell, his scalp becomes some kind of taco topping which covers his brains, the talented super song-writing-genius-multi-instrumentalist filling to a pop taco (and a one-time prog-taco, back in the day before Miami Vice).  Is this some demented vision from a man who has made one too many taco, or just some funny filler for you to read before you get a taste of what you will be getting a taste of tonight (tonight, tonight) at the Cumming Tap?  I wonder…

Last week we missed making it to the Tap on Tuesday due to some issues.  Those issues are no longer an issue, and we are looking at what may be one of our last really nice riding days for a while.  Make it down to see Sam and Bob tonight and this is what is in store for you:

MENU DE TUESDAY

  • Carnitas – our now famous-ish pork.

  • Vegan Chorizo – Eat it.  Is Good.,

  • Chicken Bulgogi – Chicken in a Korean Marinade served with Kimchi.

  • Tofu Scramble – It’s the bomb. A Cruelty-Free bomb.

  • The World Premier of our new 187 Sauce!  We have been working on this stuff for a while, months.  A smoky, spicy, thick, chunky hot sauce that adds just the right burn to your taco.  Very excited to finally have this out for the Taco Loving Public.

The usual slaw, hand pressed torts, and salsas will be on hand for your eating pleasure.  Come share your best CX or Halloween party stories with us and enjoy the return of your favorite tacos to the most amazing bar south of the Raccoon, the Cumming Tap!  Party starts at 5, and we promise…no Phil Collins were harmed during the making of these tacos.  But, Seriously…

TacoTapapocalypse Tuesday Menu!

Good day, Taco Likers/Lovers.  There were rainbows in the sky, birds (and ground squirrels) chirping, and a slightly cloud-shielded morning sun hanging in the sky as your trusty taco making person awoke from his race recovery (yes, I feel old.  taking two days to recover…sheesh) slumber.  It was all an inspiring experience, and in an instant during that wonderful waking a thought popped into existence.  “Why don’t I make a new taco for tonight, something that I haven’t tried (as a taco) before.”  Not a bad idea for sure.  Hmmm…. I have drawn from Indian, Asian, Latin cuisines but never from one of my most professionally practiced um…. provisions… ITALIAN.  Yes, an Italian inspired taco is on the menu for tonight.  Let’s discuss further.

TacoTapalypse Menu For 9/27/11

  • Italian Pork Taco.  This is the new guy, Niman Ranch shoulder slow cooked with fennel, rosemary, tomato, and a few other spices and served with a pickled red onion relish.  You will like.

  • Chorizo Verde.  It’s Green and Mean, ground Niman Ranch pork with a plethora of edible/legal green herbs and spices.  Serrano, Poblano, Cilantro, Spinach….great garden flavor.

  • Vegan Chorizo.  All the chorizo flavor without all the animal products.  Loved by Veg and Omni’s.

  • Pork Shoulder.  The Tacopocalypse “enhanced” version of the traditional Carnitas.  The original Tacopocalypse taco is still the favorite.

Of course we have all the other usual accompaniments such as slaw, a couple salsas, some fresh chopped veggies and the like.

Come join us for Tacos and Ice Cold $2.50 pints of New Belgium Fat Tire tonight at the Cumming Tap!  5pm to ?????

Des Moines Has Voted: We’re #2! We’re #2!

Our Tacos are taking over Des Moines

I just received unconfirmed word from Twitter that the results of the DSM Metromix Ten Best Tacos Reader Voted On Contest Thing are finally in.  We here at the T’lypse have been not-so-closely monitoring the contest as it has unfolded and are all (one of us) shocked at the final outcome.  Tacopocalypse, in it’s less-than-year-old infancy has managed to secure a #2 spot right behind Des Moines “taco” staples Tasty Tacos.  As the little Tasty Taco mascot guy says on their packaging, “Nada es Imposible,’ and lil homeboy couldn’t be more correct.  What started as some food that was made for some guys at the end of a gravel bike ride is now currently, according to the Greater Des Moines Voting Public, the #2 taco in town.  Many have commented that we are in fact the number one in their mouths, stomachs, and hearts…we believe them.  I am fairly certain the persons that make up the 40% of the votes received by TT have3 never tasted one of our tacos.  But when it comes down to the real nitty gritty…

Des Moines voted Tacopocalypse the Number Two Taco in umm uh… Des Moines.

The Truth. (awesome image credit: @slakingfool)

Thank you, Taco Likers.  You are the reason we do what we do, and you clearly have an appreciation for what it is that we are doing for you.

One (Taco) Love,

Sam

Tres De Mayo Menu!

Hello, Taco Likers!  In just three short hours the Tacopocalypse shall descend once more upon the Cumming Tap in mildly scenic Cumming, Iowa.  There have been a few last minute menu changes…well, just one menu change…that facilitate the need for an eleventh hour blog post.

Tonight we will be serving:

  • Braised Pork Shoulder with Salvadoran Slaw on Hand Pressed Tortilla
  • Vegan Chorizo with Salvadoran Slaw on Hand Pressed Tortilla
  • Bul-go-gi (Korean Grilled Beef) with Quick Gingered Kimchi on Hand Pressed Tortilla

The Bul-go-gi is super fresh and the accompanying Quick Kimchi is from a new recipe that was realized just today while doing some produce shopping.  It is good.

See you tonight at 5, Taco Likers!
