Yes, we ARE closed on Black Friday.

Hey, Taco lovers! We hope that you had a great Thursday! We had a spectacular time feeding the clients and staff of CISS, but more on that on another soon-to-drop post. Today (November 28th) we are closed for a private event, namely the union of two dear old friends of mine. We will reopen tomorrow, Saturday November 29th for your eating pleasure. We will see you then!

As we announced a few days ago, we will be serving Thanksgiving meals for the 300+ clients and staff of CISS again this year. The response from both the public and the clients was so overwhelmingly great that we decided on the spot to make this our yearly tradition, and thanks to clients’ requests, we will providing lunch in addition to dinner this year.

Donations of food items and money are being taken to offset costs of preparation/serving/transportation, etc, and we use the food items provided to make food on par with our regular Tacopocalypse fare. All proceeds and leftover food donations will be donated to the Food Bank Of Iowa and CISS.

With all that being said, here is our list of suggested food donations. You are not limited to the items on this list, we will find a home for anything donated. If you know us, you know we like our wild card ingredients! Tacopocalypse/YPC CISS Thanksgiving Donations Time!

Press Release: Tacopocalypse/YPC/CISS Thanksgiving Donations Time!

November 6, 2014, East Village, Des Moines, IA

Tacopocalypse is happy to announce that once again we are partnering up with the Greater Des Moines Young Professionals Connection on November 27th 2014 to provide Thanksgiving Day meals for the 300+ clients of Central Iowa Shelter and Services (1420 Mulberry Street, Des Moines, IA 50309).

Tacopocalypse will be using their culinary skills to prepare both lunch and dinner meals at the shelter. We are looking for both volunteers and food or monetary donations to assist with both meals. Last year’s response from the charitable taco loving public was so overwhelmingly amazing that we were able to prepare and serve dinner for over 300 people and donate close to 1000 pounds of food to the Food Bank Of Iowa, to assist other Iowa families in need.

How can you help? Here are a few ways:

VOLUNTEER:

You can register to volunteer as a server/helper at volunteerspot.com . Volunteer spots are limited, so act as soon as you can. A few volunteers will also be needed to help with loading/unloading both at the restaurant and shelter.

DONATE:

Food donations can be dropped off at our East Village location (407 E 5th St, Des Moines, IA 50309). We can also pick up any large donations (250 lbs or more) if necessary, to coordinate please call 515-779-8403 or email [email protected].

Monetary donations can be dropped off in cash or check (checks made out to Tacopocalypse) form at our East Village location, or mailed to:

Fall Harvest Bounty Dinner Prix Fixe!

Good morning, Taco Lovers. In 8 short days (9/24/2014) we will be hosting a Fall Harvest Bounty Dinner here at 407 East 5th street in lovely Des Moines, Iowa. The dinner is $65 for 6+courses (there’s definitely a killer dessert and possible course from our soon to open sister restaurant, Krunkwich), and the menu will be focused entirely on the freshest local produce available from great producers such as Cleverley Farms. That’s right, it’s vegetarian, but don’t worry (as if there is a cause for alarm), we will be offering a meat option for the main course. Although we currently don’t have plans for physical tickets, the dinner is available on a limited pre-sale basis at Tikly.co, with no service charge to you, OR at the restaurant (407 East 5th Street, Des Moines).

We look forward to seeing you at the dinner. It’s going to be a great adventure.

Tonight! No Cumming Tap, Only East Village

Folks, the GWT (Great Western Trail) is closed this week at the Old Army Post Road underpass, so that the dirt berm can be laid over top the new tunnel which was recently built. Although they have advertised that there is “no alternate route,” there are a few, but we are going to take this night off to do some work on our upcoming new menu and KRUNKWICH RAMEN HOUSE things and stuff. You can still get tacos in the glorious East Village until 10pm tonight, and we will definitely be back in the swing of things at the Tap next Tuesday.

Taco-ly Yours,
Taco Pastorius
