Folks, it is with a heavy heart that I bring you this news. We are going to be closed this coming Sunday for Father’s Day (so our staff can enjoy time with their families), and after further review of our Brunchpocalypse I have decided to put a temporary halt to further brunching at Tacopocalypse. We will be closed on Sundays from this day forward as I work to update both our menu and the restaurant itself.
As stated before, this is only temporary and for those of you who will be missing Sundays, we will be announcing something special soon, a thing that has been in the works for many years, a thing called NIGHT BRUNCH.
That’s Right, NIGHT BRUNCH
Thank you for the 6 years of Brunchpocalypse good times, when it returns it will be on a whole different level!
The Johnny Hash is a Vegan burrito consisting of our house made Seitan, Poblanos, Mushrooms, onions, tots, our new Vegan Breakfast Gravy, Vegan Queso, and Hot Sauce, all wrapped up and served uh…wrap style…
It’s like having a Vegan Brunch all day, every day this week.
Taco Lovers, we have a new Brunch menu for this week! Click it and check it out!
We are launching an updated and expanded menu at Tacopocalypse East Village this coming Thursday, June 1. This will include some old favorite BOD’s added to the regular menu, a greatly expanded Vegan menu, and a few new taco flavors. Masa Fries get a few new menu entries, and well… you can check it all out by clicking on the “East Village House Menu” tab, or stop by this Thursday to get a good look in person!
PREPARE YOURSELVES FOR SOME MAJOR CAPS LOCK BURRITO ACTION! THIS WEEK WE HAVE PREPARED FOR YOU ONE OF MY PERSONAL FAVORITE CONCOCTIONS! STUFFED WITH SESAME PORK, FRIED EGG, PICKLED DAIKON & CARROT, SPICY MAY, FRESH CILANTRO AND SERVED WRAP STYLE. ASK FOR SOME JALAPENOS FOR SPICY STYLE!
THE TOT CASS BURRITO IS ONE OF OUR CLASSIC BOD’S AND YOU CAN GET IT ALL WEEK! It has crisp Tater Tots, Chihuahua Cheese, and Slow Cooked Brisket on the inside then gets topped with our secret Tot Casserole Gravy. For those of you who have had some FOMO or AMO (Actual Missing Out) in the past, this bad lad will be served from Tuesday May 23 to Saturday May 27, all day, all night.
Tot Casserole Burrito: The Food With The Groove To Make Your Booty Move.
Tacopocalypse and Krunkwich Ramen House will be closed this coming Sunday, May 14th, so that our staff may spend time with their Mothers, being Mothers, and generally saluting Mothers. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you this coming Sunday. Brunchpocalypse and Krunkwich Dim Sum will resume their regular Sunday offerings on 5/21! Have a spectacular day with your loved ones, we will do the same, and see you soon!
Hello, Taco Likers! As Tacopocalypse finishes up its fourth year in the East Village we are making some adjustments to better serve you, and keep things smooth running on our side. We appreciate all of the love and admiration you’ve thrown our way, all of the support you have shown, and we have some new and potentially exciting food coming your way in return. Here’s what’s going down:
- Please welcome the Burrito Of The Week. The BOD (Burrito Of The Day) is now the BOW (Burrito Of The Week). Over the last 5 years of coming up with a different burrito 6 days a week I have received a lot of feedback from you all. The overwhelming response is “We just come in and order the BOD, it’s always good and different.” Awesome, that’s what I was shooting for back in the day. The Other Overwhelming response was that a lot of people, and I mean A LOT, were a little sad to miss out on certain burritos after learning about them too late. The BOW solves this FOMO issue for many, as you can obviously get the burrito you saw on Wednesday night for Lunch on Thursday. No Mo FOMO.
- Tacopocalypse East Village will be closed on Mondays until summer. I never wanted to join the ranks of No Monday Restaurants, but it’s time for us to pull the plug on Monday until it’s nice and sunny out again. We will be using Monday as a prep and delivery day, and be back open bright and shiny at 11am on Tuesday. My apologies to the Monday crowd. Monday Lunch will be back, it’s just a small break.
- Tacopocalypse is getting a new Vegan Menu. I have been personally developing new Vegan recipes for our upcoming Sibling Restaurant, Vegetaire, and have also gone back to my former Vegan lifestyle. This gave me some insight into the need to shake the cobwebs out of the Tacopocalypse Vegan offerings. Soy free and gluten free Vegan/Vegetarian options are at the top of the list, with a focus on fresh veggies, Jackfruit, and introducing our new Vegan Cheese for Quesadillas/Nachos. Yeah, Real Vegan Nachos. I’m stoked. The new menu will drop in May.
- The Cumming Tap Tacopocalypse Tuesdays are back. We have returned to the place where it all began. This is the ORIGINAL Des Moines taco ride that has helped launch a restaurant, a few careers, and some Food Network appearances. Tacos are being served from 5pm to 9pm, or until we run out. Get on your bike, ride south on the Great Western Trail, and be a part of making this year the greatest year we have seen.
Again, thank you for all of the love both locally and nationwide. It’s been a thrilling ride to get here, and we are looking forward to providing you all some more thrills this year, and in the years that come. Thank you for your support.

Today, on this “Tacosgiving Eve,” I give thanks for all of you who have made this little taco thing into what it is today. A few years back it all started as a “one off” taco night at the Cumming Tap with with Vegan Chorizo, Braised Pork, curtido, red and green salsa, pickled jalapeños, and hand pressed corn tortillas, and just enough people showed up to try it out that we decided to do it again. And again. We have gone from very humble beginnings to the Downtown Farmers Market, Des Moines, then to the Historic East Village as a brick and mortar restaurant. We moved from Des Moines St to our current location on East 5th, then made it on to Food Network’s “Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives” for some pretty regular rotation, in addition to some other high profile awards and publications. None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for all of you who have shown up and supported through the years, everyone who took a turn at slinging tacos, and especially all of you who have believed in and stuck by me throughout the ups and downs over the years. It’s been a tough journey, but Tacopocalypse is proof that you can go far with almost nothing, it just takes an idea, timing, dedication, skill, great friends, and a little luck.
Thank you, everyone. Have a safe holiday, and remind those around you that they are important.
